My name is Jim (in case my username did not give it away!)
I teach at a school in the Los Angeles area. I believe in helping my students discover best how the learn, how to think for themselves and ask questions, and that the process of learning is at least as important as the product. Oh... and if I have time I teach them some math too!
I am not an atheist - but have absolutely no problem with those that are. I was raised Roman Catholic and through a series of situations found that it was not for me. Actually, I have become something of an anti-Catholic... well, anti-religion with respect to anyone who tries to tell me what I am supposed to believe.
I am a Buddhist and have been for over ten years now. Yet, I find many of the conversations and arguments in Way of the Mind to be fascinating so I keep reading.
Politically... let's just say I'm in transition. A year ago I would have said Independent and left it at that, but I read and think and through no small effort on the part of some of the other members of this forum I am opening my mind to other ideas. Bear with me through the painful birthing process.
I look forward to many great conversations!
