The following comment is from this thread. The quoted parts are from there, the non-quoted parts are mine.

Threat of "you will change your mind when you have a crisis". Check.

Use of capitalized words. Check.

Sex is a sin. Check.

More use of capitalized words.

Atheists have "closed minds". Check.

Evolution hasn't been proved (and I suppose creationism has?). Check. More capitalized words, too.

Science hasn't explained everything, which proves God exists (God of the Gaps). Check.

Mention of Pascal's Wager. Check.

Some scientists are believers. Check.

Hard to understand, poorly constructed sentences and reasoning. Check.

"God hasn't been proved not to exist, therefore he must exist." Check.
(no thought of the fact that it could also apply to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or to just about anything.)

More capitals. They sure must convince some people.

I have to say, though, that this guy must be a recent convert. He missed some of the most important, effective , and common of the fundamentalist troll tactics:

• Insults. The more, and the more vulgar, the better.
• Terrible spelling and grammar.
• Threats of eternal damnation ("you are are going to HELL!")
• "Atheists are arrogant."
• "God's existence is obvious to anyone; you know, deep inside, that he exists, but refuse to admit it out of pride."
• "The world is screwed up because of people like you."
• "Without belief in God, there would be nothing to stop people from killing, stealing, raping, and so on."
• "Christians are being persecuted by evil secularist forces" (even though Christians are 80% of the population, including everyone in the government)
• A personal conversion story.
• Quotations from the Bible.

• complete misunderstanding of the word "theory"
• the unsupported claim that there are actual scientists who believe intelligent design.

So I must ask, is stereotyping something an athiest is proud of?

Not that I am taking either side, but is it stereotyping to identify observable patterns?

Its stereotyping to take those patterns and apply them to a group of people, I think I just took a side without relising it .

If a large majority among a group do something, it's not wrong to say so. It's true, after all.

It would be wrong, however, to say that they all do that, without exceptions.

Or do you believe I made that up?

By the way, it's "nicer" not to quote an entire large post when you only want to reply to a part of it. Editing out the parts you're not replying to makes following a thread easier for everyone.

The intelligentsia. Our best and brightest. Smarter people than you or I.

All religious claims are legitimate scientific claims, but most religions groups won't allow their beliefs to be scientifically scrutinized. Because, of course, if put under scientific investigation it is likely that it would not yield any results.

Our beliefs have been scientifically scrutinized to death. No one needs our permission nor have they ever worried about cooperation. Science cannot cure the common cold, but can give an eighty year old an erection. Science cannot even prove that the red I see is not green to you.

The results of any scientific investigation would mean squat anyway, with Christ living in my heart.

The ONLY way to know what is in fact the case, that is to say what it in fact true, is to employ critical thought and critical examination. And this is why religion still exists, this blind faith, scientific study and analysis is the only way of analyzing reality, emotions are subjective, to understand what's really real you have to be objective. IF we where to base our perception of reality entirely on emotions as you seem to, we'd probably wouldn't have made it past the first few years of our life, "God will protect me I have fa-" *Mauled by bear".

Secondly you do relise that the tags "Red" and "green" are simply markers on a spectrum, that spectrum is the same in REALITY, the small small band that is visible light is the same NO MATTER WHAT, it does not change, it doesn't matter whether you're color blind, the fact remains that in reality red is red.

Third this is the God of gaps mentality, "SCIENCE HASN'T PROVED IT YET AND IT NEVER WILL THEREFORE GOD EXISTS NOW SHUT UP"
Less than 500 years ago we believed that the earth was flat, that the earth was the center of the universe, that the sun was a tiny orb. We thought leeches would cure everything and that diseases of the mind where the work of the devil.
Less than 100 years ago we didn't have combustion engines.
Less that 20 years ago we didn't have proper PCs
Less than 5 years ago we didn't have a machine that may just cause a black hole when the scientists turn it on.
Eventually my friend we will know the answers you seek, you may not live to see them of course, but such is life.

Take evolution, evolution has affectively is infinitely more likely to be true than creationism since, of course, even if we had, say "1" evidence we'd still have infinitely times more evidence than creationism since, of course no matter how many 0s you have, you'll never have 1.

Your stuck on this fact thing, aren't you? You have limited yourself to one singular way of knowing what is truth. 2.1 billion other people have gotten past that problem (and thats just us Christians)

The answers have always been here. Your making yourself the judge of what is evidence and what isn't. For me, and it is as real for me as your evidence, everything, absolutly everything proves the existance of God. Our very being screams God. We exist because he willed us into being.All creation is a thought in His mind.

Does love exist? Using science, prove it.

The color thing. What if all my life, yellow has appeared to me as blue. How could you even determine that we saw different? Your not getting it. Our communication is roughly equalivelent to grunts and shrieks.

Go deeper. Try to remember. You were born with old truth stamped on your being. You have a relationship with God, even if it is all one sided right now.

To be true a statement must necessarily correspond to reality. This is what is known as a fact, so yes being a reasonable, thinking, honest, individual I am "stuck" on the whole reality and truth thing.

BTW you have your direction in error. Those individuals never got past truth and reality, they never got to either. If you get to reasonable you can only get to faith by moving backward.

Look up equivocation, it is the tactic you are employing here to try to give meaning to illusion and illusion of meaning to nonsense.

I would first like to start out I came looking for answers and got none because nobody replied to my thread. Why is that. I did however bring these points up, and I got answers from pastors.

Regarding the mauled by the bear comment. God never anywhere in the bible promised that he would protect you. For example see job, paul, peter, jon basicly any follower. They were not protected from bears. In fact the bible said life would be hard. So I gotta give that point to the church because you misrepresented a big misconception about the church.

On you the earth was flat point I was shown where the bible describs the earth as being a spherical, free standing object that is not the center of the universe. Now can you honestly tell me the bible was not around over 500 years ago. Again I give that point also to the church they are showing me evidence. Why won't you people?

On evolution pastors explained experaments after experament that is evidence that evolution does not exist. They told me about things such as the software and hardware problem. Issues with thermodynamics and information theory. the Cytochrom C problem, and much more. again I'd have ot agree with the church. They gave me examples all I hear from you guys is boasts. I came looking to see what you guys had to say with and open mind but all your doing is talking about all this stuff you have but not saying what. Its like saying I have all the answers in a box but not showing it to anyone. Why? The pastors I asked on thier input gave me plenty of examples and evidence why not you guys? Im getting discuraged with your thinking because you havent giving me any reason to believe.

Also about some scientist who believe you make them sound insignificang. Pastors showd me non-relegious studys showing 64% of scientist go to church. thats more than the general public. Among scientist who believe were albert einstien and steven hawking. Its kinda hard to believe your points if your not backing them up with anything
